Microbes are key components of all ecosystems; however, other than the minuscule fraction of microbial communities that cause human, animal and plant disease, we understand very little of their biology.
This talk will describe how cutting edge DNA sequencing may be used to to provide powerful insights into microbial communities, and the production of wine in New Zealand will be used as a apt vehicle to demonstrate and discuss the beneficial roles of microbes in natural and agricultural ecosystems.
